A black yeast-like fungus found in wet areas, Exophiala jeanselmei is linked to skin and nail infections, particularly in individuals with repeated exposure (e.g., frequent hand immersion in water). In homes, it may colonise shower stalls, sinks, or drains. Adequate drying of surfaces, plus regular use of fungicidal cleaners in high-risk areas, helps limit its presence.
