A dematiaceous (darkly pigmented) fungus associated with chromoblastomycosis when it infects skin. Indoors, it can appear in moist wood or plaster, forming slow-growing, dark colonies. Although infections from household contact are infrequent, immunocompromised individuals should exercise caution. Reducing damp conditions and handling suspicious growth with protective gloves can help minimise risks.
