Forms colonies that often appear light yellow to olive, Paecilomyces variotii thrives in high-humidity environments and can inhabit HVAC systems, humidifiers, or water-damaged construction materials. While rare, it has been implicated in infections among severely immunocompromised individuals. Regular maintenance and disinfecting of ventilation equipment can prevent aerosolisation of spores.
